pink by Maharaja Man Singh II when Prince of Wales, later Edward VII, visited
Jaipur in 1876. Today, every home within the city is obliged by law to maintain
his facade. Did you know? Jaipur, commonly referred to as the Pink City
was not actually meant to be pink. Maharaja Jai Singh decided to paint
the city in the same red sandstone used in Delhi and Agra to symbolize imperialism.
However, since the city was made out of rubble rather than stone, the red colour
turned pale and became pink. The original red still remains in some parts of the
Pink City !!
